Job fair in Macon to offer chance to work for sheriff's office, fire department

Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Al Tillman and the Human Resources Department will hold a job fair Thursday.

The event begins at 6p.m. at the Manna Ministry/Lizzie Chapel Church, 1180 Bartlett St. People will be able to apply for positions with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department and Bibb County Sheriff's Office, according to a news release.

This job fair is the latest in a series of events and outreach efforts hosted by Tillman to help make people aware of the available jobs with Macon-Bibb and of efforts to improve the community, the release said.

"We are looking for men and women with a great work ethic and who are full of character, courage and commitment," says Fire Chief Marvin Riggins, who points out more than 50 firefighters have retired in recent months. "This job requires commitment and dedication to the cause. Every day we uphold our commitment to excellence, and we are only looking to hire people who carry that same sense of value."

"The sheriff's office will be hiring for both civilian administrative positions, as well as sworn deputy positions," says Sheriff David Davis, pointing out that POST-certified applicants hired in November will be allowed to begin work on patrol, rather than working in the jail first. "We are looking for dedicated and committed individuals who want to make our community a safe and vibrant place to live."
