Political Notebook: State Rep. Randall joins Hillary Clinton council

State Rep. Nikki Randall, D-Macon, is one of 60 people in Georgia named to a leadership council that will promote Hillary Clinton for president of the United States.

The Clinton campaign announced this month the launch of its "Hillary for Georgia Leadership Council" -- a group of more than 60 elected officials, community leaders, students, coalitions and grassroots leaders who will help build a volunteer team to help Clinton win the Georgia Democratic primary on March 1, according to a news release.

Randall is joined on the council by other leaders such as Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Andrew Young, former ambassador to the United Nations.

The leadership council will serve as the in-state leadership for the campaign, amplifying the campaign's national voice to Georgia families aiding the campaign with rapid response, organization building, grassroots organizing events, recruiting volunteer leaders, and identifying leaders for Get Out The Vote activities, the release said.

MACON-BIBB BLIGHT ISSUES MAY GET REVOLVING FUND HELP

A resolution asking the Macon-Bibb County Commission to endorse using a revolving loan fund for some of the blight projects could be voted on Tuesday.

The resolution says county officials will work with the Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority as the agency administers the program and creates a loan review committee. A revolving loan uses interest and principal payments from old loans to issue new loans, according to the Council of Development Finance Agencies.

The County Commission has $10 million in bond money to use on blight projects.

The resolution is sponsored by the Macon-Bibb ad hoc blight committee.

HARDEN APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEE

Speaker of the House David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, has appointed state Rep. Buddy Harden, R-Cordele, as chairman of the Joint Agriculture Exposition Authority Overview Committee, according to a news release.

"I am confident Rep. Harden will ably lead the Overview Committee as they protect and support the tremendous resource that is the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter," Ralston said in the release.

The Georgia Agricultural Exposition Authority operates the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter, a state-owned 1,100 acre, multipurpose rental complex designed for meetings, conferences and trade shows, among other events. It is also home to the official, state-sponsored Georgia National Fair.

Harden represents the residents of District 148, which includes Crisp, Pulaski and Wilcox counties, as well as portions of Houston County.

"I appreciate the Speaker's trust and the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Overview Committee," Harden said in the release. "I look forward to serving in this position to work with the Exposition Authority and the Overview Committee to ensure the continued success of the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter."
