Ousted Fort Valley officials had previous conduct issues, reports show. What we know.
Two former Fort Valley officials who were removed from their positions in the last two weeks had previous employment issues involving ethics and conduct.
The Fort Valley City Council fired Police Chief DJ Flores on Jan. 30, as well as Assistant Police Chief Michael Bostic.
City Administrator Gary Lee resigned, with the council formally accepting his resignation on Tuesday, meeting agendas and recordings showed. Lee was initially slated to be fired, according to media reports, but was allowed to resign.
Fort Valley Mayor Shakeena Reeves will take over the city administrator’s duties until a new hire is made, and Capt. Alger Raines will serve as interim police chief, according to city documents.
Fort Valley has not released any statements explaining the terminations or resignation, and did not respond to The Telegraph’s request for comment.
Police chief was fired, put on probation for past behavior
While little has been released by the city about the firings, Flores has had previous issues with conduct on the job.
Flores, who was hired in 2023 as assistant police chief and promoted the following year, was placed on a two-year probation from the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council in 2022 following unethical and dishonest conduct during his stints with the Dublin Police Department and Centerville Police Department.
According to media reports from when he was put on probation in early 2025, Flores allegedly violated the Dublin Police Department’s policy with inconsistencies in his timecard, and tried to get a loan from a subordinate in exchange for a better position while working for the Centerville Police Department. Flores has publicly disputed these allegations.
Flores resigned from the Dublin Police Department in 2022, and was fired from the Centerville Police Department in April 2023. He was hired by the Fort Valley Police just a few months later.
City Administrator involved in federal lawsuit against former Warner Robins mayor
While Lee, who has worked as the city administrator since 2024, was initially going to be fired alongside Flores and Bostic, Reeves and the city council allowed him to resign during Tuesday’s meeting.
Lee also has had issues at past jobs, although those allegations have been disputed in court.
While working as development director for Warner Robins city government in 2019, Lee was indicted for falsely reporting crime and giving a false statement to investigators, according to media reports. He was later exonerated and reinstated to his position.
In November 2025, he filed a federal lawsuit against former Warner Robins Mayor Randy Toms over the issue. Lee alleged that Toms had false information placed into his file that led to the falsely reporting a crime charge.
According to the lawsuit, Lee discovered that his signature had been forged on a document that said he had gone to a substance abuse program. Lee said he never went through such a program, and reported the issue to Toms.
The lawsuit claimed that after reporting the issue to Toms, Lee was wrongfully arrested and prosecuted.
