Centerville mayor race to fill vacated seat is decided. Here’s what winner plans.
J. Micheal Evans was elected mayor of Centerville Tuesday night with 57% of the vote, according to the unofficial results.
He defeated challenger Justin Wright to win the seat left vacant by Mayor John Harley, who resigned in December 2024 after serving as mayor since 2009.
Evans, Centerville’s mayor pro tempore, has served in the role during the interim. He will now officially be sworn in as mayor for the remainder of Harley’s term, which runs through the end of the year. Another mayoral race will be scheduled for November.
According to his campaign website, Evans ran on a platform that includes expanding recreation and community spaces, improving public safety and strengthening Centerville’s relationship with Robins Air Force Base, one of the largest employers in Houston County.
“To the citizens of Centerville, GA, thank you for the confidence and trust you have placed in me by allowing me to serve as your Mayor,” Evans wrote in a Facebook post. “I am so excited about our future and look forward to working with everyone as we move our city forward.”
Evans is an Air Force veteran who worked at Robins Air Force Base for 18 years as a civilian employee. He has served on the Centerville City Council for nine and a half years, and previously served for three years on the Stone Mountain City Council.
