Donald Trump’s campaign bus tour will make a stop in Macon. See who is going to speak.
The Donald Trump campaign will be stopping in Macon Friday as part of a bus tour across Georgia.
The event will feature prominent Republicans stumping for the former president, but is not expected to feature Trump or his running mate. It will take place at the Bibb County GOP’s headquarters at 3220 Riverside Drive. Tickets can be obtained online on a first come, first serve basis.
JD Vance, U.S. senator for Ohio and former President Donald Trump’s running mate, was scheduled to give a speech in Macon on Sept. 26, but it was postponed due to the severe weather threat from Hurricane Helene. Vance has not yet scheduled another appearance in Macon
The stop is the latest in Macon, which has seen Democrats and Republicans making appearances in the final weeks of an election Georgia has the potential to decide.
Why is the Trump campaign visiting Georgia?
The Trump campaign’s Friday stop will be its first appearance in Macon this year, but it has not ignored Georgia.
On Sunday, Trump made an appearance in Augusta to survey damage from Hurricane Helene. He also made a stop in Savannah at the end of September, and held a rally in Atlanta this summer.
Georgia is set up to play an important role in the upcoming election, with polls showing the state is a tossup. Georgia’s 16 electoral votes could be a boon for whichever candidate wins the state.
Coming to Macon may be a way to tail his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, whose campaign made a stop in Macon in July. Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, also paid Macon a visit on Sept. 16.
Who will be speaking?
While it does not appear that Trump or Vance will be in Macon, the campaign has lined up a slate of stump speakers to represent the campaign.
According to messages sent to media and supporters in the Macon area, Joni Ernst, U.S. senator for Iowa, will make an appearance, as well as former Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley, who worked for Trump. Georgia Senate President Pro-Tempore John F. Kennedy, and candidate for U.S. House Wayne Johnson will also be in attendance.
The campaign has not yet released details on what the speakers will touch on. According to emails from the campaign, Vance planned to talk about inflation and the economy during his remarks in Macon.
Editor’s note: This story has been updated after Trump’s campaign released an updated list of speakers.
