Kamala Harris, Tim Walz taking a bus tour to Georgia during close race in Peach State

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, is set for a bus tour in Georgia Wednesday, the campaign announced..

Harris will be joined by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, her running mate. They’ll travel through southeast Georgia before hosting a rally in Savannah, according to a news release from her campaign. Campaign officials didn’t say where the rally would be held in Savannah or where other stops in Georgia would be made. Officials also didn’t announce times for stops on the tour.

“We are running the largest in-state operation of any Democratic presidential campaign cycle, with over 190 Democratic coordinated campaign staff in 24 coordinated offices across the state,” the campaign said in a news release. “Our coordinated campaign offices are strategically located in all corners of the state: from rural counties like Washington and Jenkins counties to the outer Atlanta metro counties that are rapidly shifting, including Forsyth and Fayette.

“Our recent Weekend of Action had more than 300 people turn out in the heart of Forsyth County, an area that voted for (former President Donald) Trump in 2020, and more than 60 women turned out for an organizing event in rural Washington county as part of a rural tour through central Georgia.”

Harris’ campaign says she’s visited Georgia seven times this year, including this bus trip. First Lady Jill Biden visited Columbus earlier this year while President Joe Biden was still in the race, advocating for the administration’s support for veterans.

In response to Harris’ tour, Republicans criticized Democrats for focusing too much on Atlanta.

“While our highly engaged and energetic operation in Georgia is focused on turning out votes across the entire state, Democrats in Georgia are finally learning an important lesson…there is more to Georgia than just Atlanta,” RNC Spokesperson Morgan Ackley said in a statement. “Republicans from Catoosa to Camden County and everywhere in between are fired up and ready to re-elect President Donald J. Trump because his message of putting America first again resonates with Americans of all backgrounds.”

What do Georgia’s polls show in presidential race?

An average of five prominent polls showed Trump and Harris are within 1 percentage point of each other in Georgia Wednesday, according to 270ToWin.

A Times/Siena poll showed Trump up 4% Wednesday, though that number was impacted by the Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s departure from the race.
