Live updates: Biden wins White House, leads Georgia by more than 9,000 votes

Editor’s note: McClatchy reporters will provide live updates on Georgia’s vote counting process and other election news in the state throughout the day.

Biden leads by more than 9,000 votes over Trump

President-elect Joe Biden leads Georgia by more than 9,000 votes over Donald Trump, according to data from the Associated Press.

Biden leads by 9,160 out of the nearly 5 million ballots cast in the state. The Georgia Secretary of State website has not updated its vote count since 5 p.m. and still shows a 7,547 difference.

Biden is currently projected to win with 290 electoral votes, and the Associated Press has not called North Carolina or Georgia. Trump leads North Carolina by more than 75,000 votes.

Atlanta’s Fulton County discovers reporting issue, will rescan ballots entered Friday, Secretary of State says

Fulton County discovered an issue involving ballots reported by election officials Friday, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said in a statement.

Election officials are at the State Farm Arena to rescan their work from Friday. A monitor, additional investigators and the Deputy Secretary of State will oversee the process. Observers from both political parties are also present.

The statement does not indicate how many ballots were affected or what the exact issue was as many Georgia counties were counting provisional as well as military and overseas ballots Friday. McClatchy will update this story with a response from the Secretary of State’s office.

Biden’s lead in GA increases slightly as more votes come in

Georgia counties continue to process absentee, cured, overseas/military and provisional ballots Saturday. As of 5:00 p.m., Joe Biden led Donald Trump in the Peach State 2,462,099 votes to 2,454,552, a lead of 7,547 votes.

Georgia’s top election officials said Friday afternoon that the state remains too close to call. A recount is “likely” as Biden and Trump are separated by a razor-thin margin.

Joe Biden wins PA and White House. Georgia counts still ongoing

Joe Biden has won in Pennsylvania, giving him the 2020 presidential election over incumbent Donald Trump while ballot counting in Georgia continues.

As of 10:11 a.m., Biden leads Trump in Georgia by nearly 7,250 votes with several thousand ballots left to be counted. Biden’s lead has continued to widen since Election night, and a Democratic presidential candidate has not won Georgia since Bill Clinton in 1992.

It’s Saturday morning. What’s the latest?

Thousands of votes are left to be counted in Georgia, but Joe Biden expanded his lead over Donald Trump early Saturday morning.

As of 7 a.m., Biden had 2,461,455 votes to Trump’s 2,454,207, a lead of 7,248 votes.

Biden expanded his lead in Fulton County, according to the New York Times. The county had planned to upload 3,812 provisional ballots and around 900 military/overseas ballots Friday night, county election director Rick Barron told reporters.

Of the 4,869 provisional ballots Fulton had received, 3,603 were accepted. Some 1,266 provisional ballots were rejected for a variety of reasons, typically because the voter had cast the ballot in the wrong county or was not registered to vote.

Georgia’s top election officials said Friday afternoon that the state remains too close to call. A recount is “likely” as Joe Biden and President Donald Trump are separated by a razor-thin margin.

Up to 8,410 outstanding overseas and military ballots were due to the state by close of business Friday. It is unlikely that all of those ballots will be returned, and the ballots must be postmarked by Election Day for them to eligible.
