Wife thought husband won $500 SC lottery prize. But she was missing a few zeros
A wife thought her husband held a lottery ticket worth $500 — but she was missing a few zeros.
It turns out, the South Carolina husband’s scratch-off ticket was worth $500,000.
“It’s been a running joke for a while that he was going to win big,” the wife told the S.C. Education Lottery in an Aug. 15 news release.
But the husband’s lucky streak didn’t end there. Within a week of scoring the half-million-dollar prize, he won an additional $1,000.
“He has a weird knack for winning,” said the wife, who wasn’t identified in the release. “He can give me a ticket and I won’t win anything.”
Though the husband had won $500 and $1,000 prizes in the past, nothing topped his latest six-figure win. He bought the lucky ticket in Summerville, a roughly 25-mile drive northwest from the popular travel destination of Charleston.
While at a Parker’s Kitchen convenience store, he spent $10 to play the Win Big game. After beating 1-in-1.5 million odds to score a top prize, he sent his wife a text message with the good news.
“I read it and thought it was $500,” said the wife, who later learned the lottery ticket was worth much more.
The couple kept $347,500 after taxes. Now, the two hope to finish paying for their home, lottery officials said.
