A lottery player “trusted his gut” — and it led to a jackpot win in North Carolina.

William Evans was at home when he felt compelled to try his luck on Multiplier Mania, an online game.

Something just told me to play that one,” Evans told the N.C. Education Lottery in a July 25 news release. “I’m stoked.”

Evans won $273,520 after he spent $1 on his lucky ticket. Lottery officials said he had a “good feeling” about the game, and it was spot on.

“I was like, ‘Am I reading this right?’” Evans said. “It was kind of nerve-racking.”

“I was just sitting at home kicked back in my recliner when I won,” Evans told lottery officials.

He took home $196,251 after taxes, officials said.

The lucky winner lives in Elizabeth City, a roughly 165-mile drive northeast from Raleigh. After the windfall, he hopes to buy property.

It’s not the first time a $1 ticket has turned into a big win. Another North Carolina lottery player couldn’t wait to tell his family he hit the jackpot, McClatchy News reported July 23.
