Couple celebrates anniversary with lottery ticket — and wins life-changing prize
A couple celebrating their wedding anniversary decided to mark the day by scratching off a lottery ticket together.
The 44-year-old woman from Oakland County, Michigan, said her husband noticed the huge prize on the ticket first, but he didn’t believe it was real, Michigan Lottery Connect officials said in a May 27 news release.
“He thought something wasn’t right, so we took it to the store to scan it,” the woman told officials.
The couple scanned the lottery ticket and was told to claim their prize at the lottery office.
Then, they asked a friend to scan the ticket on their lottery app. That’s when the couple officially confirmed that they had won $2 million.
“I started shaking and was in total shock when $2 million came up on the screen. It was so exciting and the best surprise on our anniversary!” the woman said.
She chose to receive the prize in a $1.3 million lump sum, officials said.
With their winnings, the woman says she plans to purchase a home, invest some of the money and save for her children to go to college, according to lottery officials.
Oakland County is located northwest from Detroit.
