Big lottery win left SC couple divided — do they ‘tell everyone’ or keep quiet?
A South Carolina man came home with a big surprise for his wife — a winning lottery ticket, officials said.
“I was speechless,” the wife said, according to an April 11 South Carolina Education Lottery news release.
The lucky couple won the top prize in the $200,000 Fortune game, per the release.
“He was really excited and wanted to tell everyone,” the wife told lottery officials. “I wanted to keep it quiet.”
The man bought the ticket for $5 from a convenience store in Lyman, an 85-mile drive southwest from Charlotte, North Carolina, lottery officials said.
The couple decided to use the winnings on repairs, the wife said.
“It couldn’t have come at a better time,” she told lottery officials.
The odds of winning the top prize in the $200,000 Fortune game were 1 in 1,440,000, the lottery said.
The game is now closed, according to lottery officials.
