Worker says he ‘was about to have heart attack’ after big lottery win in Maryland
A man was shocked after realizing he had scored big with a Maryland lottery scratch-off, officials said.
Christopher Hudson of Delaware works across the state line and “barely” plays scratch-offs with his biggest win being $1,400 years ago at a casino in Delaware, according to an Oct. 17 news release from the Maryland Lottery.
The landscape company owner “was about to have a heart attack” after realizing the scratch-off he bought at a 7-Eleven during his work break in Ocean City landed him $100,000, lottery officials said.
Hudson, 30, only bought the ticket after having “a feeling,” spending $10 on a $100,000 Crossword 7th Edition scratch-off, officials said.
“I was seeing stars when I saw that $100,000,” Hudson said in the release. “Thank goodness no one was in the store.”
Hudson had to return to work so he called his fiance, Claudia Taylor, to pick up the ticket and take it home for “safe keeping,” lotto officials said.
“I was freaking out waiting for her,” Hudson said in the release.
Taylor told lottery officials she thought Hudson was “making it up.”
The couple said the winnings will “help change their lives,” officials said.
Hudson plans to use the money to double his company and buy more equipment, officials said.
“This is perfect timing,” Taylor told officials.
Ocean City is about 150 miles southeast of Baltimore.
