As a woman slept this summer in Maryland, she dreamed about winning the lottery.

The win came from a Bonus Match 5 ticket, but it was a small prize.

“In my dream, I only won $400,” the 52-year-old told lottery officials in an Oct. 12 news release.

When she woke up, she decided she would try her luck with the game anyway.

Four days later, she won in real life, and it was a much bigger prize.

The child care worker from Silver Springs bought a $6 ticket and won $50,000 on July 23.

The woman has been playing various lottery games for years, including a scratch-off ticket in May that won $10,000, lottery officials said.

This time, the jackpot is enough for her to purchase a car.

“I thought I was unlucky, but I never gave up,” she told lottery officials. “I kept playing until it was my time to win.”

Silver Springs is in Montgomery County, about 6 miles north of downtown Washington, D.C.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
