A 12-year-old is hospitalized after an ice cream truck plowed into his apartment and struck him, Louisiana police say.

Kenner police said Javier Adrian Flores Fajardo was struck just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, WDSU reported.

The ice cream truck was traveling at a high speed when it ran through a red light into the apartment complex, police said, according to Nola.com. The truck traveled through the building’s parking lot before hitting Fajardo’s complex.

The driver was hospitalized, WWL reported. His condition is not known.

Police said their investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, WDSU reported.

Fajardo was playing video games when he was hit, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser started by family members. It took officials 40 minutes to find him buried beneath rubble before he was taken to the hospital with a fractured skull and multiple broken bones, WDSU reported.

The Kenner Police Department did not immediately return McClatchy News’ request for comment.

Kenner is about 12 miles east of New Orleans.
