Hiker stranded overnight on frigid mountain after she falls, Arizona rescuers say

A hiker who fell on a frigid Arizona mountain was rescued after becoming stranded, officials said.

After her fall on Mount Lemmon, the hiker was unable to trek back down the mountain on April 3, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in an April 5 news release.

Members from the Pima County Search and Rescue team found the woman in the evening and “stayed with her overnight to minimize hypothermia,” officials said.

Early the next day, Pima County Search and Rescue called CPB for assistance.

“A technical rescue team has been called in due to terrain and icy conditions,” Pima County Search and Rescue said in an April 4 tweet.

Officials said a helicopter crew arrived to the area shortly before 9 a.m., and a rescuer was lowered to the injured woman.

“High winds made the hoist extremely difficult,” Pima County Search and Rescue said on Twitter.

The woman was airlifted from the area and taken to a Tucson medical center, officials said.

Mount Lemmon is about 20 miles northeast of Tucson.
