Car carrying 5 flips, killing 18-year-old driver and one passenger, Florida cops say
A car carrying five people struck a ditch and flipped, killing two, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 2011 Honda Accord was traveling north on U.S. 41 in Lutz just after midnight on Dec. 19 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, according to a report from the agency.
The car crashed into a ditch and flipped over, ejecting the 18-year-old driver and a 19-year-old backseat passenger, the report says.
The driver and passenger were taken to hospitals, where they died of their injuries, according to the agency. They were not identified by Florida Highway Patrol.
Lutz is about 14 miles north of Tampa.
The driver and passenger who died were the only occupants of the vehicle not wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
The other passengers, two 18-year-olds and one 16-year-old, suffered minor injuries, the report says.
