A woman’s concealed body was found outside of a Staten Island, New York, home, officials told local news outlets.

A neighbor discovered her body in a driveway in a neighborhood near the Bayonne Bridge in the early morning hours of Friday, Oct. 21, according to WABC.

Upon arrival, first responders pronounced her dead, according to the outlet.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was partially clothed, covered by blankets and placed inside a garbage bin, according to the New York Daily News. Home surveillance footage captured a man dragging the woman out of an apartment and leaving her outside in the bin.

The woman has not been identified and it’s not yet clear how she died, according to WNBC. Though a resident of the apartment building said they heard someone yelling and asking if anyone could perform CPR.

Officials believe the woman may have died of an overdose, according to the Daily News, and suspect her body may have been brought outside by “those she was partying with.”

An autopsy should clarify the circumstances of her death, according to WNBC.

The New York City Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from McClatchy News.

In the first half of last year, there were 1,233 overdose deaths in New York City, according to the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

“The overdose epidemic is taking one New Yorker from us every four hours, and is a public health crisis that has touched far too many people,” Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan said in an April press release.

Nationwide, there were an estimated 107,622 deaths resulting from drug overdoses in 2021, marking a nearly 15% increase from the previous year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
