Lifeguards find man dead in water as they open pool for the day, Hawaii police say
Lifeguards found a man at the bottom of a public swimming pool in Hawaii as they arrived to open for the day, authorities said.
The man was discovered after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Charles “Sparky” Kawamoto Swim Stadium in Hilo, the Hawaii Police Department said in a news release.
The public swimming pool opens at 9 a.m.
Police said they believe the man, who appears to be in his mid-20s, went into the facility while it was closed.
Lifeguards pulled his body out of the water, police said. His body did not have any signs of visible trauma, and police do not suspect foul play.
His identity has not been released.
