Ever want a ‘magic door?’ This cool house for sale in Texas has one. Check it out
Magic is a questionable supernatural force that spurs debate among non-believers, but there is no denying its existence in this unique home on the real estate market in Austin, Texas, for $13 million.
Okay, so it’s not “Harry Potter”-like magic, but still ridiculously cool.
The Bohn House, as it’s known, is a 6,479-square-foot house that was created by Roy L. Thomas in 1938 and its design was inspired by “Lost Horizon,” a film that was released a year prior, home design website Dwell says. While the house is a work of art, it’s a particular door — the “magic door” — that is perhaps one of the most intriguing features.
“Inside, the house’s most enduring feature is also its most explicit reference to the mythical descriptions of Shangri-La — a circular mahogany door between kitchen and living room,” Architect Magazine describes. “The architects restored the feature (which slides upwards), including the original operation switch.”
The current owners, Bill and Misty Reid, bought the five-bedroom house in 2013 for $1.4 million and spent “14 months renovating the house, expanding it from roughly 4,000 square feet to about 6,500 square feet,” Mansion Global reported.
Other features of the house according to Mansion Global include:
Swimming pool
New electrical and plumbing
Rooftop deck
Three-car garage
Media room
Wine cellar
The home was also featured in the Wall Street Journal.
The listing is held by Phyllis Patek and Teresa Jones of Compass.
