Passengers flee after crash, leave woman dying in street, California police say

A collision at a Santa Ana intersection left a woman dying in the street as her companions ran away, California police reported.

The crash took place at 5:41 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, when a vehicle running a red light was hit by a second vehicle, Santa Ana police said in a news release.

A woman was thrown from the first vehicle by the collision, police said. Her companions in the vehicle ran away.

Firefighters and police arrived to find the woman lying in the street, the release said. She was taken in critical condition to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The second driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police, the release said.

Investigators are looking for the other occupants of the first vehicle, along with anyone who may have seen the collision.
