Friends search for missing camper but only find her supplies ‘untouched,’ CO cops say

Friends dropped a woman off to go camping and hadn’t heard from her more than a day later. When they went to search for her, all they found were “untouched” camping supplies.

The friends took the woman to Dream Canyon near Boulder, Colorado, on Saturday, Sept. 10, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said. They dropped her off at about 1 p.m.

“When her friends did not hear from her on Sunday, they became worried and went back to check on her late in the evening on Sunday,” deputies said in a news release. “When they arrived, they found her camping supplies untouched and no sign of the female.”

They called 911 and reported the camper missing. Deputies started preparing to search the area overnight. They interviewed the camper’s friends and found her belongings.

Rescuers said the terrain was too rugged to search the area at night, so they started a large-scale search in the daylight on Monday, Sept. 12.

At about 7 a.m., a group of rescuers, search dogs and drones began to scour the area. They found the woman about three-and-a-half hours later.

“The female reported she had been hiking on Sunday evening and had attempted to climb up a rock when her hand slipped, and she fell, sustaining serious injuries,” deputies said.

The woman tried to get back to camp, but she became confused in the darkness. She sheltered in place under a tree until rescuers arrived, deputies said.

Rescuers got the woman back to the trailhead, and she was taken to a hospital for medical care. Officials did not disclose the woman’s name or her condition at the time.
