A 27-year-old father who drowned along with his three young children in an Indiana pond was intoxicated at the time of his death, officials told news outlets.

The Sept. 7 coroner’s report comes a month after the dad and children disappeared, and were later found dead.

Kyle Moorman and his kids, ages 1, 2 and 5, all vanished after leaving on a fishing trip on July 6, McClatchy News previously reported.

A search was launched, and six days later, on July 12, investigators found Moorman’s body in a pond on the south side of Indianapolis.

Crews scoured the water and their search revealed a black Saab with three children dead inside, McClatchy reported. The sunken vehicle matched the description of what Moorman was driving when he was last seen.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office confirmed the bodies found were Kyle Moorman, 1-year-old Kyran Holland, 2-year-old Kyannah Holland, and Kyle Moorman II, age 5.

But even with their bodies found and identified, questions lingered.

The coroner’s office released the causes of death for Moorman and the kids on Wednesday, Sept. 7, providing further answers.

All four died of accidental drowning, the coroner’s office told TV station WTHR.

The investigation also revealed that Moorman had “acute ethanol intoxication,” according to the station.

Investigators have not said how Moorman’s vehicle ended up in the pond, or if he was behind the wheel when it happened.

Moorman’s cell phone pinged for the last time around 12:40 a.m. on July 7, his family told WLWT. He may have been night fishing at the time, they said, it’s something he often did.
