A woman crashed her car into a church, forcing the building to close, according to authorities in Michigan.

The 56-year-old woman from Millington, Michigan, “intentionally” drove into St. Paul Lutheran Church on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 14, the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Monday, Aug. 15.

The woman crashed over a bush, then through a brick wall and into a church classroom, the sheriff said.

Emergency responders took the woman to the hospital, but no one else was injured, according to the release.

The church posted on Facebook that, “due to structural damage, the building will be closed until further notice.”

Photos of the crash scene taken by Mid-Michigan Now on Monday showed plywood sheets covering the hole, with cracks running up the brick wall.

St. Paul Lutheran Church did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment.

Millington is about 75 miles northwest of Detroit.
