A man yanked the steering wheel of a pickup truck during an argument with his girlfriend, causing a crash that killed an 11-year-old girl in Arizona, officials said.

Arianna Gannon, was traveling in a car with her two sisters and Life Spring Church’s children’s director, according to KTVK-TV. They were on their way back to church after having lunch.

A pickup truck driven by the girlfriend on El Mirage Road “veered sharply across a raised median” and collided with the car carrying Arianna and the three others, according to the El Mirage Police Department.

“The pickup then rolled over at least one time,” police said.

Arianna was thrown from the car, according to police. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

“It’s horrific. I can’t, I still today am still on the verge of tears every time I talk about it. It’s like we can’t wrap our brains around it. How do you account for that loss? And the loss, it was so unnecessary,” Pastor Barry Sappington said during a vigil for the girl., KTVK reported.

The other three passengers were also transported to the hospital, but all were in stable condition, police said.

The man and woman in the pickup truck had minor injuries, police said.

The 28-year-old man is facing one count of manslaughter and five counts of endangerment, according to police.

El Mirage is about 20 miles northwest of Phoenix.
