Two 18-year-olds in truck crash at California creek, cops say. Only one resurfaces
Two recent high school graduates were in a truck that crashed into a California creek and one man never resurfaced from the water, authorities said.
The 18-year-old men landed in the Putah Creek in Winters on July 3, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office said.
Rescuers found one 18-year-old clinging to the shoreline, the sheriff’s office said.
The man told deputies his friend, Eduardo Fierros of Winters, was still inside the submerged red truck.
When the truck was recovered, Fierros was not inside, deputies said.
Rescuers and family and friends of Fierros have searched for him for five days.
On July 7, authorities used an underwater drone and divers to look for Fierros but ended the day with no sign of him.
The two men had recently graduated from Winters High School, the Winters Express reported.
“A lot of great memories and like I said, we’re very hopeful we’ll find him,” Dago Fierros told KOVR. “We care about him and we love him so much. We’re all patiently waiting and we just want to bring him home.”
Winters is about 30 miles west of Sacramento.
