Friends rush to save surfer after he’s found face down in water, California rangers say

A surfer was found face down in the water, and his friends rushed to help him, California park rangers said.

The man was surfing at South Beach on Tuesday, July 5, at Point Reyes National Seashore. He was surfing with his friends when he was found unresponsive and face down in the water.

“Friends pulled the male from the water and began CPR,” the National Park Service said in a news release. “Rangers responded and took over patient care.”

Park officials detected the man’s pulse and said he was breathing. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital.

The California Highway Patrol said the friends’ actions helped save the man.

The National Park Service did not disclose the man’s condition or identity.

“There are no further details currently,” officials said. “The incident is under investigation by the National Park Service.”
