Driver accused of ramming two bicyclists on cycling club ride, Colorado sheriff says
Sheriff’s officials are seeking a driver accused of intentionally ramming two bicyclists in Jefferson County, Colorado, seriously injuring a 61-year-old woman.
Haley Mill, 38, hit the cyclists before 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19, on U.S. 40, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Mill intentionally drove into the cyclists in a 2018 Ford Escape, sheriff’s officials said. When she sped off through a nearby parking lot, a badly damaged bicycle fell from under her SUV.
Bicyclist Lisa Ludwig, 61, was seriously injured and remains unresponsive in the hospital, her family told KDVR.
Ludwig, described by her daughter as a “passionate cyclist and accomplished athlete, loving wife and mother of two adult children,” was riding with the Team Evergreen Cycling club when she was hit, KDVR reported.
The second cyclist hit in the crash, also a Team Evergreen Cycling member, suffered a broken bone, KUSA reported. In a statement, the club said it was “saddened and frankly heartbroken” by the incident.
The sheriff’s office has issued an arrest warrant under Mill’s birth name on charges including assault and hit-and-run with serious bodily injury, the release said.
The SUV was discovered Monday parked in a neighborhood, where investigators believe Mill abandoned it, KUSA reported.
Sheriff’s officials ask that anyone with information contact 303-271-5612 in reference to case 22-10305.
Jefferson County is just west of Denver.
