Chihuahua found with arrow through neck recovering in California. ‘Such a sweet puppy’
A woman’s 911 call about a “screaming” puppy in Desert Hot Springs led to the rescue of a Chihuahua puppy shot through the neck with an arrow, California officials reported.
A deputy picked up the injured pup and handed her off to a Riverside County Animal Services officer on May 23, the agency said in a news release.
Graphic photos in a video with the release show the puppy with an arrow protruding from both sides of her neck.
Veterinary workers at the county animal campus took X-rays of the 4-month-old pup and successfully removed the arrow, the release said. The puppy is recovering.
“For someone to willfully shoot this poor pup with an arrow is disgusting,” Animal Services Director Erin Gettis said in the release.
“We are shocked and we hope someone can provide us any information as to who did this,” Gettis said. “Meanwhile, we’ll continue to treat this puppy and work on finding her a suitable home.”
Despite her “terrible” ordeal, she’s “such a sweet puppy,” veterinary technician Emily Ellison said in the release.
“It’s amazing to see her affection, despite what occurred,” Ellison said.
