Two killed when plane crashes into Pennsylvania neighborhood, officials say

Two people are dead after a small plane crashed into a Pennsylvania neighborhood, officials told news outlets.

The single-engine plane crashed into a residential Bucks County neighborhood at about 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, CBS Philly reported. It went down in Perkasie, about 40 miles north of Philadelphia.

The plane crashed near Pennridge Central Middle School, according to WPVI.

Officials don’t know what caused the crash, but witnesses told FOX 29 the engine cut out.

“I thought I was gonna die,” neighbor Catherine LaPat told WPVI. “I thought the plane was coming down on my house and if it hadn’t turned at the last second.”

Two people on board the plane died. No one on the ground was hurt as debris went flying through homes, FOX 29 reported.

Hilltown Township Police Chief Christopher Engelhart told NBC10 the pilot “was a hero” because he got the plane into the road and away from homes.

A pest control truck “filled with chemicals” was parked near the crash and caught fire, according to WPVI.

The identities of the people on board the plane have not been released, WFMZ reported. An autopsy is scheduled for Feb. 26.
