Home Depot worker swaps $387,500 in deposits for fake cash and keeps money, feds say
An Arizona worker at Home Depot swapped out $387,500 in store bank deposits for counterfeit cash and pocketed the real money, federal officials reported.
The Tempe man’s duties at the store included preparing cash for deposit in local banks, the U.S. Secret Service said in a news release.
From January 2018 to January 2020, he replaced $387,500 in store deposits with fake bills, keeping the real cash, the release said.
Agents arrested the man Jan. 31 at Home Depot, where they found $5,000 in counterfeit money and $5,300 in real cash, officials said. They found another $22,000 in real currency at his home.
He faces a charge of uttering of counterfeit U.S. currency. The agency thanked Home Depot and Wells Fargo Bank for assisting in the investigation.
