Woman dies after being run over by man she harassed at job, California officials say
A woman repeatedly run over in a California parking lot in late September by a man with a grudge against her has died, sheriff’s officials say.
Gryselda Joseph, 53, died of her injuries Wednesday morning, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office officials told The Mercury News.
A deputy found Joseph lying face-down in a Starbucks parking lot in Millbrae at 12:21 a.m. Sept. 20 while doing routine checks, McClatchy News reported.
Security camera videos showed a gray BMW SUV hitting the woman at high speed, then repeatedly running her over, authorities said.
Investigators later traced the SUV to Garrett Young, 23, of Millbrae, who was arrested on suspicion of intentionally running Joseph over, sheriff’s officials said.
She had reportedly been harassing him at his job at a nearby Safeway, authorities said.
Young will now be charged with murder, KPIX reported.
Doctors are currently assessing his competency to stand trial, prosecutors told The Mercury News. They are scheduled to report back Nov. 15.
