Boy vs. monster fish: Utah boy won, but the fish overwhelmed him, photo shows

A 10-year-old caught a massive fish that looks like it’s almost as big as him, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said.

Tyler Grimshaw caught a huge lake trout at Flaming Gorge Reservoir near Manila, Utah, DWR said in a social media post on Friday. The fish weighed 41 pounds.

Photos show Tyler looking very proud of himself, with a big smile on his face. Wildlife Resources said he caught and released the fish all by himself.

People on social media were shocked a 10-year-old could get such a catch.

“Wow! The fish looks like it weighs more than Tyler,” one Facebook commenter said.

It’s unclear when exactly the fish was caught. The social media post just says, “recently.”

Lake trout are usually about 20 inches long, according to the U.S. Fish and WIldlife Service. The largest length recorded was almost 5 feet long, and the biggest one recorded weighed 102 pounds.

The fish are common in northern Canada and Alaska, and they are not native to Utah, but the species was introduced in some of the state’s cold-water lakes, DWR said on its website.
