Outgoing Bibb County school board member Tom Hudson received a surprise sendoff Sunday. Friends, family and colleagues gathered at RiverStone Apartments in Macon for a reception, organized by District 1 board representative Ella Carter, according to the Bibb County school district.

Besides refreshments and well-wishes, Hudson received a check for $25,000 as a thank you for his service. The check’s signature line listed the giver as “The Beloved Community of Macon-Bibb GA.”

Attendees signed a keepsake banner for Hudson, and board President Lester Miller presented Hudson with a framed resolution.

Hudson represented District 5 for 12 years over three terms. His last board meeting was Thursday.
