Date set for Macon-Bibb inauguration

The Macon-Bibb County Commission will have its inauguration on Dec. 27.

A swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by Probate Court Judge Sarah Harris followed by a reception at the Armory Ballroom. Mayor Robert Reichert and eight of the nine commissioners were re-elected earlier this year to a new term beginning Jan. 1.

Longtime Commissioner Ed DeFore will be replaced by former Bibb County Commissioner Joe Allen for the District 6 seat.

Reichert told commissioners this week to dress to impress, since photos taken that day will be placed in the Government Center.

The new commission will have its first meeting Jan. 4 when it will elect a new mayor pro tem.
