Food, music, games part of Macon park celebration
A ceremony featuring bike rides, food, music, games and more will be held Saturday for a new west Macon park.
The grand opening for Filmore Thomas Park, 3793 Log Cabin Road, will be held noon-3 p.m, according to a news release.
A shuttle will be available at New Pilgrim Baptist Church, 4388 Robinson Road, for people attending Saturday’s celebration.
The $1.7 million park, which opened Monday, features a splash pad, two basketball courts, a pavilion, a concrete pad, amphitheater, playground and more. The park is also located near the ongoing widening of Log Cabin Drive as new sidewalks and pedestrian bridge are being installed.
The park is named after a former Bellevue community activist.
“We are elated that — after more than 30 years — the Filmore Thomas Park is finally opening,” Alfreda Lockett, Thomas’ daughter, said in the release. “Our entire family wants to thank Commissioner (Al) Tillman and Macon-Bibb County for making this dream a reality.”
