The Macon-Bibb County Commission will vote Tuesday on naming a new Business Development Services director.

Marcus Robinson, most recently the director of environmental safety at Broward College in Florida, has been nominated by Mayor Robert Reichert to take helm of the department that handles building inspections and licenses, code enforcement and more.

Robinson was the top choice of a selection committee. He has worked as a college professor, assistant fire marshal and construction plan reviewer. If appointed as director, Robinson would take over the position recently vacated by Tom Buttram.

Reichert said Robinson has the leadership qualities necessary to lead the department. He rattled off numerous certifications that Robinson holds in areas ranging from public safety to building inspections.

When Robinson spoke to county officials this week about how his background, Commissioner Ed DeFore was impressed.

“He keeps talking and we’re going to have to double his salary,” DeFore said.
