The Marines are leaving Robins Air Force Base.
A ceremony Thursday officially deactivated the Marine Aircraft Group, 49 Detachment Alpha, and consolidated the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 773, according to a release from the base. It marks the end of nearly six years of operation at Robins.
Operations of the squadron, known as the Red Dogs, will consolidate this summer with its sister unit, Detachment B, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.
There were 150 active duty and 180 Reservists assigned to the Marine unit at Robins.
