Event planned in Macon to help homeless veterans
The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center and Volunteer Macon will hold an event in Macon on Sept. 11 to help homeless veterans.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Macon Coliseum, according to a news release.
Homeless veterans will be able to get free clothing, food and health care services. Information will be provided about housing, counseling, legal services, jobs and resources for homeless veterans.
Networking among groups that can provide help is also an important aim, said Nicole Solomon, the Dublin VA’s homeless coordinator.
“VA has excellent resources to assist homeless veterans but we need to ensure that we have effective relationships with the community to meet their needs,” Solomon said in the release. “This summit will allow us to offer immediate assistance to homeless veterans and nurture community relations that will help meet homeless veterans’ needs in the future.”
Veterans can get free bus passes to the event at the VA Vet Center, Salvation Army, Macon Daybreak, Rescue Mission, and Macon Vet Services.
For further information about the event, contact Solomon at 478-272-1210 ext. 2122 or Nicole.Solomon@va.gov or Volunteer Macon at 478-742-6677. Additional information about VA resources for homeless veterans can be found at www.va.gov/homeless or by calling 877-4AID-VET (877-424-3838).
