Bibb BOE seeking tax increase feedback at Tuesday hearings

Bibb County residents will get a chance to voice their opinions on a property tax increase.

The 2-mill hike, which would bring the county’s rate to 19.945 mills, got tentative approval at the school board’s most recent meeting in July. The increase came about as part of an effort to fund a 3-percent raise for district employees that was included in the budget for the 2016-17 school year.

Two hearings were scheduled for Tuesday, one at 11:30 a.m. and another at 6 p.m. The third hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16 as part of the board’s regular meeting schedule.
