Loretta Clayton, Middle Georgia State University’s interim dean of Graduate Studies, is the new vice president/president-elect of the Georgia Council of Graduate Schools.

She was elected during the spring 2016 GCGS conference in Savannah.

Middle Georgia State just launched its first two graduate degrees: a Master of Science in Information Technology that now has three concentrations — Information Security/Digital Forensics, Health Informatics and Software Development — and a Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in Adult/Gerontology Acute Care to train Nurse Practitioners. Both degrees are offered completely online. Other graduate programs are in the works.

Middle Georgia State is a member of the GCGS, an organization of more than 20 institutions of higher learning, both public and private, founded to represent and advocate for the improvement and advancement of graduate education in the state of Georgia.

For the academic year 2016-2017, Clayton will serve as vice president of GCGS, then assume the role of president the following year.
