Springdale kindergarten student reaches reading milestone

Springdale Elementary School kindergartner Merrill Long joined the Accelerated Reader Millionaire Club after reading a million words this school year.

According to a release from the Bibb County school district, Merrill is the first kindergarten student to reach this mileston.

Principal Donna Jackson announced her achievement on the school's morning news last month and surprised Merrill in the media center with the whole Millionaire Club, her parents, teachers and a visit from Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones.

Merrill says her favorite books to read are the "American Girl" series, where she learns of Leah's adventures to the Amazon.
