Veterans High students named Beta Scholars

Veterans High School seniors Shelby Burnette and Tyler Frye were named 2016 National Beta Scholarship Recipients. Each will receive a $1,000 award to use at the school of their choice. Only 256 scholarships were given throughout the country. National Beta Club Scholars are chosen based on academics, leadership, commendable character, school and community service and participation in National Beta Club.

Burnette is also the Veterans High 2016 valedictorian. She is an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar with Distinction who has earned highest average awards in many honors and AP classes. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina to study sports management. Her parents are Mark and Lisa Burnette.

Frye is the salutatorian and STAR Student, as well as a National Merit Commended Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction and University of Georgia Certificate of Merit recipient. He is considering the Georgia Institute of Technology, Northwestern University and Columbia University and plans to study Biomedical Engineering and Vocal Performance. His parents are Todd and Terri Frye.
