Pepper spray used, student charged at Macon’s Elam Alexander

A campus resource officer used pepper spray on a student at Elam Alexander Academy’s location at Northeast High School on Thursday.

The student, a 15-year-old female, had locked herself in a restroom stall at the school, which serves students with emotional and behavioral disorders. The campus resource officer made his way into the restroom and got into the stall to retrieve the student.

“But she was being combative, so the officer had to use pepper spray,” said Stephanie Hartley, communications coordinator for the Bibb County school district.

The student has been charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct, and medical personnel were called to the school to treat her.
