Gun found Tuesday at Perry High School

A gun was found in a student's bag at Perry High School earlier this week.

After receiving a tip on Tuesday, the school's administration and the resource officer assigned to the school investigated and found a "small, unloaded handgun," according to an email from Beth McLaughlin, communications director for Houston County schools.

"The Perry Police Department secured the weapon and the student was taken into custody," McLaughlin wrote.

Parents were notified of the situation Tuesday.
