Stratford's Dylan Quintal wins region STAR honor

Bibb County STAR student Dylan Quintal was named the Region 6 winner at a banquet Tuesday night at Middle Georgia State University.

Quintal, a Stratford Academy senior, scored a 2,330 out of a possible 2,400 on the SAT to earn the award.

He plans to study astronomy in college, with hopes of being able to communicate the "power and wonder of our universe with others one day.

Quintal's STAR teacher is Stratford AP English teacher Michelle Fleming, who's also chairman of the school's English Department.

Up to this point, STAR student selection has been based entirely on SAT score and class ranking requirements, but that changes with the state competition.

That will take place in Atlanta April 18. The process will include a day of interviews before a winner is announced at a dinner that night.

The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators sponsor the event.
