Bibb, Dooly and Crisp schools, Middle Georgia State Univ. delay opening Wednesday

With potentially severe weather rolling into Middle Georgia overnight, some school systems decided to delay classes Wednesday.

Bibb County schools will have a two-hour delay to all school operations, according to an email from Stephanie Hartley, the district's communications director, sent around 10:30 p.m. The delay includes all Bibb public schools as well as the Academy for Classical Education and Macon Charter Academy.

Middle Georgia State University has canceled all classes on all campuses until noon Wednesday.

Dooly County's day will start later as well, with bus routes pushed back to 9 a.m.

Crisp County also will be operating under a two-hour delay.

At about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, a wind gust during a severe thunderstorm ripped off a metal roof from a barn off Ga. 33, between Cofer and Landfill roads, about two miles west, southwest of Cordele.

Unsettled conditions could linger, making thunderstorms possible in eastern Georgia through Wednesday afternoon.

The front will usher in colder air than the state has seen recently.
