Education Notebook: Wesleyan honors three women as servant leaders
On Thursday, Wesleyan College and the Lane Center for Service and Leadership presented three women from Macon with the college's Women's Servant Leader Award.
The Rev. Stacey Harwell-Dye, Centenary United Methodist Church's director of community partnerships and initiatives is an ordained member of the clergy and is part of a four-person team within the denomination's South Georgia Conference focused on social justice issues.
Kaylyn Morris was described in a news release from Wesleyan as "an active servant leader" with the Out of Darkness Middle Georgia Chapter. That organization's initiatives are aimed at liberating women from undesirable circumstances throughout the community.
June O'Neal is the executive director of The Mentor's Project of Bibb County. The project takes aim at issues facing Macon's young people, particularly educational concerns such as raising the graduation rate.
REGISTRATION OPEN FOR BIBB COUNTY pre-K
The Bibb County school district will open pre-kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017 school year Monday through Feb. 14. All applications for the pre-K lottery will be processed online this year through the district's website, www.bcsdk12.net. There are currently 729 pre-K slots available to children who are 4 years old on or before Sept. 1. Selection is based on a random computer lottery, and there is no cost to participate.
Students may attend pre-K at their zoned neighborhood school or parents may choose to register them at one of three alternative locations: Northwoods Academy, Alexander II Magnet School or Vineville Academy of the Arts. Transportation will not be provided to non-zoned schools, and parents may only register their child for one school.
Parents will have an opportunity to register their child in person on the next two Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Northwoods Academy, 709 Pierce Ave. Computers will be set up at Northwoods on these two dates to allow parents to register for the pre-K Program on site.

HOUSTON COUNTY OFFERING COMPUTER CLASS FOR ADULTS
The Houston County school board is offering basic computer classes free of charge to adults. Classes are taught by employee and student volunteers. The last class for this year will be held at the Houston County Crossroad Center on Monday and Feb. 8 from 4:30-7 p.m.

BIBB SURPLUS AUCTION SET TO BEGIN
The Bibb County School District will host a surplus equipment auction beginning Monday. Visit www.govdeals.com to register for the auction. Items available include buses, chairs, light fixtures and sewing machines.
pre-K SLOTS AVAILABLE IN HOUSTON COUNTY
Two Houston County elementary schools have three openings for pre-kindergarten students in the current school year. Lindsey has two openings and Northside has one. The positions will be filled out of zone on a first-come, first-served basis. Any out-of-zone families will be required to provide their own transportation.
Parents who are interested should go to Central Registration with the appropriate paperwork. pre-K students must have turned 4 years old on or before Sept. 1.
Only a parent or legal guardian may register a child. pre-K registration requires the following items: parent/guardian photo ID, certified birth certificate, guardianship/custody orders if the child does not live with his natural parents, lease or mortgage plus second proofs of residency, Social Security Card or waiver, ear, eye and dental screening, Georgia Form 3300, immunization certificate, Georgia Form 3231 and proof of eligibility for Medicaid, SSI, TANF or food stamps, if applicable.
Central Registration is located in the Bert Rumble Complex at 303 South Davis Drive in Warner Robins.
