Bibb magnet school lottery results available Friday

A couple of days after checking their Powerball numbers, some parents will have their eyes on a different kind of lottery for four of Bibb County's magnet schools.

The lists of students who'll be attending Alexander II Elementary, Vineville Academy, Burdell-Hunt Elementary and Miller Middle next school year are generated by computer based on random selection from those who applied in time.

Those lists will be available at 10 a.m. Friday in the Bibb County Board of Education room on the fourth floor, at 484 Mulberry St.

"We try to tell parents what that time and day will be," said Stephanie Hartley, the district's communications director.

The lists are done independently, so the possibility exists that a student could be chosen for more than one school. Parents will then indicate which school the student will attend so a name can be pulled from the waiting list.

Applications for the district's magnet high schools -- Central High School International Baccalaureate program, Central High School Fine Arts Magnet, Hutchings College and Career Academy, Northeast Health Science Magnet, Southwest Law Academy and

Westside Pre-Engineering Magnet -- are still being accepted.
