Education Notebook: Middle Georgia State hosting grad program sessions
Middle Georgia State University is hosting information sessions about its upcoming graduate degrees in information technology and nursing. The sessions will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. in 101 Russell Hall on the Cochran campus and Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Professional Sciences and Conference Center on the Macon campus. HUNTINGTON MIDDLE HOSTING STEM NIGHT
Huntington Middle School will host a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Challenge Night on Monday from 6-7 p.m. STEM Challenge Night is an opportunity for students and parents to participate in STEM activities and learn about Huntington's STEM Club and program. At 5:30 p.m., a sponsor will host a spaghetti dinner in cooperation with the Parent Involvement Coordinator.
BIBB MAGNET SCHOOLS HOLDING OPEN HOUSE
Applications for Bibb County's elementary and middle magnet schools for the 2016-2017 school year will be accepted through Dec. 7. Separate applications must be submitted to each school that a student is applying to attend.
Elementary magnet schools in the District include Alexander II Math and Science Magnet School, Burdell-Hunt Communications Magnet School and Vineville Academy of the Arts.
Miller Fine Arts Magnet Middle School is the District's only middle-grades magnet school.
Acceptance into any elementary or middle magnet school is contingent upon being randomly chosen during the lottery selection process and a successful interview or audition. An open house will be held at each of the schools before the application deadline.
Alexander II already held its open house, but the other schools will hold theirs this week. Burdell Hunt is scheduled for Monday from 5-7 p.m., Vineville Academy is set for Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. and Miller Middle is set for Thursday at 6 p.m.
MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE OFFERING 'FOOD FOR FINES' OPTION
Middle Georgia State University Library branches on all five campuses are rolling out "Food for Fines." From now until the end of fall semester, students can knock a dollar off their overdue fines for each canned good they bring in. The Library will round to the nearest dollar.
All food collected will be donated to community food banks or to Middle Georgia State's SHARE pantries, which provide food to students and employees in need.
