Middle Georgia counties score below state average on ACT

The ACT results are in for students across the state, and Middle Georgia’s counties came in below the state average.

Composite scores across the state averaged a 21 on the test in 2015, with Houston County marking the midstate’s highest score at 20.3. Monroe County wasn’t far behind with a 19.7, followed by Jones County with a 19, Baldwin County with an 18.1, Peach County with a 17.9, Bibb County with a 17.4, Crawford County with a 17.1 and Twiggs County with a 16.2.

Veterans High School in Houston County had the top school average in Middle Georgia with a 21.9, and Northeast High in Bibb County came in with the low average of 15.3, although just 38 students from the school took the test.

Participation levels across the area may not be representative of the student body as a whole, as just 529 students in Bibb County took the test, about 9 percent of the county’s high school students. Houston County had just 589 participants, roughly 7.5 percent of that county’s high-schoolers.
